Bioplastic is a form of plastic derived from plant sources such as hemp oil, soy bean oil and corn starch rather than traditional plastics which are derived from petroleum. Bioplastics vary in appearance however; most bioplastics cannot be externally distinguished from conventional plastic. They have a smooth surface.
What most biodegradable types have in common is their greater steam permeability, as compared to conventional plastics. This is particularly advantageous for certain applications. For example:
