The Microcare unit has worked well over the last two yearsReview by Francois
I have used this Microcare unit for 2 years now. First on 12V 480 watt panels. Since 2015 I have upgraded to 1400 watt, running at 100 VDC input and 48VDC output. I have generated well over a megawatt accumulated and the controller has even at times produced over 1600 watts for short periods even though the panels are specified at 1440 watt max. Well designed construction. I would just make the heat sink bigger and get rid of the fan. Well done guys. (Posted on 22/12/2015)

I bought this unit (from another supplier) two years ago. About two months ago it indicated a memory error on the LCD. This is apparently a common problem, so common that it's noted in the manual. I logged a support call with Microcare but I have yet to hear from them. I suspect my unit is outside the warranty period, as they only recently increased the warranty period to 3 years.

I did inspect it on the inside of the unit as well. The PC boards don't appear to be laminated, which is not good indication of quality. It has a large inductor and two semiconductors screwed to the rear heat sink -- which I assume is a mosfet and a diode -- that is to say a textbook buck converter. This is certainly large enough and not undersized as in some Chinese makes.

The unit does have an easy to read LCD display, and the two circuit breakers means you don't need separate DC breakers to issolate your solar modules or the charge controller from the batteries. This should be taken into account when comparing costs with other controllers which has neither the LCD or the breakers.

The voltage measurement on the LCD seems to be about 0.1V off, which is acceptable. (Posted on 03/07/2015)
