After use, our product can be thrown into compost bins and will completely biodegrade into water, CO2 and healthy compost within a few weeks. Bioplastic is a form of plastic derived from plant sources such as hemp oil, soy bean oil and corn starch rather than traditional plastics which are derived from petroleum. Bioplastics vary in appearance however; most bioplastics cannot be externally distinguished from conventional plastic. They have a smooth surface.
What most biodegradable types have in common is their greater steam permeability, as compared to conventional plastics. This is particularly advantageous for certain applications.
PLA is made from fermented corn starch, and is a great alternative to conventional petroleum based plastic in many applications. PLA is transparent and heat sensitive to 40 C. It’s used on its own, or as a thin sheet over bagasse or cardboard to act as a moisture or grease barrier.
Wood Cellophane is made from regenerated wood, cotton or hemp cellulose.
Our cellophane is:
- Made from FSC certified sustainably-sourced wood pulp.
- Has a high barrier to air, grease and bacteria making it ideal for food packaging.
- Can be heat sealed.
- Is home compostable.
